Reading list for developers

This is the list of books developers should read. Start at the top, work yourself down the list. The more you get through, the better. Even though I’m a security nut and into software development methods, I really don’t think you need to read specialist books on software security and stuff as much as you need the common sense in the books I’ve listed. So, please, start here and start soon.

  1. Joel On Software, Joel Spolsky
  2. User Interface Design, Joel Spolsky
  3. More Joel On Software, Joel Spolsky
  4. Coder to Developer, Mike Gunderloy
  5. The Mythical Man-Month, Frederic Brooks
  6. The Pragmatic Programmer, Hunt - Thomas
  7. Software Project Survival Guide, Steve McConnell
  8. Programming Pearls, 2nd ed, Jon Bentley
